As I promised here is all the goings on that aren’t a race. As many of you are aware I’ve entered the 50km Tarawera Ultramarathon, which of course requires a fair amount of training and preparation. I also have been getting a lot of sideways looks and “say that again” from people. Oh and I’ve been getting a ton of new cool gear too.

So it feels like just a few weeks ago that I was
running walking slogging my way towards to the Blue Lake in Rotorua, but as it turns out it was nearly four months ago (and two months since my last blog post). In contrast it felt like the Hillary event was ages away, there would be heaps of time to get ready. Well surprise Brent, it’s in a week!! And you’re not ready.

Last year I set myself a pretty ambitious goal of losing 45kg by my birthday this year to bring me back down to 100kg. Well, my birthday was at the start of the week and while I’m a little disappointed didn’t make my goal, I’d have to say that I’m still happy with the 20kg I have lost to be now 125kg. But I’m even more pleased with all the gains I’ve made.
After the Hillary at the start of the year I suddenly seemed to lose all my gained fitness and plateaued on the weight loss front. This year I’ve set myself the mantra of no event under 10km and the ultimate goal of the 34km Hillary next year (which entries have just opened, so don’t miss out). Something that came clear pretty quickly was that to really have a good go at making serious gains and achieve my goals I was going to need to get some professional help.
