Extremes of Events

As it was rightly pointed out to me by Facebook, WordPress, and a number of people, I’ve been a bit slack having not made a post in 6 weeks and 2 events. There has been a lot of goings ons, so rather than making one giant post I’m going to break it down to a twofer race recap of the Totara Park and Waharu events, and one of the non event developments. As it’s fresh in my mind, and legs, I’ll kick off with the events.

Over, Around, and Over

Before I realized, it was the day of the second event in the Auckland Xterra series, this time at Shakespear Regional Park and this would be my first attempt at the super long distance. Two years ago Shakespear was the first event in the series and my first ever trail running event, and it damn near killed me at the time.

Ugh, Riverhead.

I’m not going to sugar coat it; I don’t like Riverhead Forest. It’s nothing personal, it’s not you, its me. Slow muddy runs, more time pushing than on my bike, car parking, and getting lost that one time has meant Riverhead has never done it for me. I never saw what others did in the sloppy mud and clay amongst the pine trees and fire roads. So with the first event of this years Auckland Xterra Series at Riverhead I gritted my teeth and thought of England.
